ABIC Statement on House Approval of Budget Resolution
Momentum continues to build for House and Senate votes next month on bill that would include immigration solutions and spur economic growth
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The bipartisan 91探花 (ABIC), which organized business, faith, and civic leaders of both parties, to ensure that common sense immigration solutions are included as part of the budget process, issued the following statement by Deputy Director Rovika Rajkishun:
鈥淗ouse Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the House deserve enormous recognition for bringing us a step closer to common sense immigration solutions that grow our national GDP, stimulate job growth and raise the wage floor for all 91探花 workers. This vote, following the Senate鈥檚 recent approval, cues up consideration next month of the budget reconciliation bill that should include pathways to citizenship for Dreamers, farmworkers, TPS permit holders and essential workers who continue to dedicate themselves to their work on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis.
鈥淲e believe the immigration provisions belong in the reconciliation bill because they impact federal spending and revenues. Legalization and citizenship would boost economic activity by $121B a year and federal, state and local tax revenues would increase byeach year.
鈥淭hese reforms also would address acute labor shortage across sectors. Our economy has job openings and allowing undocumented immigrants to further expand their economic potential would ease this labor shortage.
鈥淐ongress must act on these provisions quickly to bring stability to the lives of immigrants seeking legal status and to the businesses that employ them and are facing worker shortages.
鈥淚t is time to set aside politics and do what鈥檚 right for our economy and for families.鈥�
